Morrisons, Rubery - 28th January 2015

I decided to head to Morrisons three times during the school week and thought it's time to review a year after my last supermarket review there

So, what is it like? The criteria is as follows.

  1. Clean - yes, in general.
  2. Friendly staff - okay. Hard to judge when you go on a self service till. Although, an error propped up on the self check machine, and the member of staff was swift in getting it sorted.
  3. Aisle width - wide and you can fit at least two trolleys in each aisle. It was 6pm, and there were some bargains galore!
  4. Everything I was looking for was in stock - Yes, though I only bought three items. The fish reduced was of good quality and the price was reduced by a third, which was nice. Most stock that I would have looked for is there, including the legendary clotted cream!
  5. Extras: pharmacy/opticians/specialist food/petrol station - There is a petrol station with unleaded at 104.9p per litre, so it's not the cheapest compared to the petrol stations in the Northfield, Weoley Castle and Bournville area. It also has a cafe which is not bad from previous experience. There's also some good specialist food items available including Chinese items so I am happy. It also has a pharmacy which means you can get your medical items there too. Finally, you can get some clothes and electrical items there.
  6. Fresh produce with long sell-by dates - Yes. And with items that are on the reduced aisle, they are generally still in fresh condition,  with discounts of up to 2/3 off. However it's not as generous as last year.
  7. Opening Hours - 6am to 11pm Mondays to Saturdays and 10am to 4pm Sundays. Opening hours are reasonable though it's not 24 hours.
  8. Speed of till-processing -not enough manned tills available, probably due to cuts regarding profits at Morrisons.
  9. Self-service tills available - Yes! Not the best self-service tills, they seriously need upgrading. An error propped up with putting items in the bagging area, but the member of staff was quick to sort it out.
  10. Parking facilities - yes and plenty available at 6pm. And no parking restrictions!
  11. Value for money - part of the big four supermarkets, they do have quite a lot of special offers. Obviously, some items are more expensive in Morrisons than in other supermarkets so you need to shop around! However, they are trying to combat this with the Morrisons loyalty card. However, you need to spend £15 to see if you can get discounts. And I'm not a fan of that.
  12. Organic produce - available if you want them.
  13. Cash machine or cash back - cash machines are available but signs are not that clear though.  Morrisons also offers cash back when you shop.
  14. Pedestrian access - yes and are step free.
Overall, the Morrisons in Rubery has gone slightly downhill since my review last year. It does still contain the good basics and you can get some real bargains there. There was an epic supermarket price failure where the packet of fresh breaded fish was reduced from £4 to £3.99. And it's still expensive than doing the Mix and Match offer.

Sorry, Morrisons - compared to last time, it does require improvement.
